Harvesting Cannabis
Tips for when to harvest your cannabis flower
Knowing when cannabis flower is ready for harvest. Here are some of the things to look for:
- The trichomes: Trichomes are the small, mushroom-shaped glands that produce the cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis. When the trichomes are milky white or amber in color, your plants are ready to harvest.
- The pistils: Pistils are the long, white hairs that grow out of the buds of cannabis plants. When the pistils start to curl in, your plants are ready to harvest.
- The color of the buds: The buds of cannabis plants will start to turn from green to amber as they mature. When the buds are mostly amber in color, they are ready to harvest.
- The weight of the buds: The weight of the buds will also increase as they mature. When the buds are fully mature, they will be heavier than when they were younger.
It is important to note that the ideal harvest time will vary depending on the strain of cannabis you are growing. Some strains are ready to harvest when the trichomes are still mostly clear, while others may need to be harvested when the trichomes are mostly amber. It is also important to note that the weather conditions can affect the harvest time. If the weather is too hot or too cold, your plants may not reach their full potential.
Here are some additional tips for knowing when cannabis flower is ready for harvest:
- Use a loupe: A loupe is a magnifying glass that can help you to inspect the trichomes on your plants. When the trichomes are milky white or amber in color, your plants are ready to harvest.
- Use a hygrometer: A hygrometer is a device that measures humidity. The humidity level in the grow room should be between 50 and 60% when you harvest your plants.
- Use a pH meter: A pH meter is a device that measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The pH level of the water you are using to water your plants should be between 6.0 and 7.0 when you harvest your plants.
- Trust your gut: After you have been growing cannabis for a while, you will develop a sense of when your plants are ready to harvest. Pay attention to the trichomes, pistils, and color of the buds, and trust your gut when you decide it is time to harvest.
By following these tips, you can be sure that you are harvesting your cannabis plants at the optimal time.
